Drop Dead

Putting together a super team of rad people has been something we at NorthTrooper have been working on for a while and we were finally able to accomplish that with the latest editorial shot for UK streetwear brand DropDead. With myself shooting, Tawny styling, Chelsea doing H&M, and Jon assisting we hit up several location before settling on the backdrop of Topnaga Canyon with our amazing model, Nora Oneil. The SS16 collection featured a lot of the usual amazing goth pieces, which were cleverly partnered with some spring looks from Dr Martens to create a nu-goth feel. As we spent the day bouncing around and shooting we got Nora in some great shot spots including an old church and up a 20ft tree. See the images below and look out for more as we are already in works on another DD project for late Spring.

Bonerjamz: Jasmine Villanueva

We recently had some time to spend with Jasmine Villanueva. You might recognize the name as she has been all over the internet lately linked to Justin Bieber as a possibly new love interest. We took a drive and met up in Malibu and wandered around until we found a spot we liked, almost in a secret garden of sorts and started to shoot some images for Sculpt Swimwear. Jasmine was awesome and went right to work playfully moving for the camera. Working with models that actually know how to model in this business is always a pleasure, and altho we spent just an hour with her the images speak for themselves.

NorthTrooper Presents:

One of the new brands I have been working with this year has been Puma. Since 1924 Puma has been making a dent in shoe history from its Olympic upbringings to famed soccer player Pele, right into the 70s with their iconic Clydes. Puma doesn’t just stop there either, they have been collaborating with major brands, and now major celebs. In 2015 Rihanna designed her own collection with the brand, and the Fenty was born. We were lucky enough to start our year off working on a small production which includes the black creeper. With the help of my New York based team (Martin Moon/Hahn Chang) we spent an evening shooting and filming. The result which you see below is amazing.

Spring Forward With Change

With a new year comes new contracts and new work, all which are always welcome. I spent the past week in NYC working for 2 brands, the first of which was VC. A new high end streetwear brand from Montreal making some big noise in the industry. Hot off the heels of Liberty Fairs we hit the streets of the big apple and made our way to One World Trade where we shot a clean lookbook for the brand. A mix of neutral colours accenting each other off the minimal surroundings made for a very nice look for the SS16 Capsule which will soon be available. Everything in the collection is cut an sew, and was created by the designer Matt Beach and owner Sabrina Silvano. Take a look at the shots below. I think this is what street wear Heaven looks like.

Seems like forever since I have posted but so much has been going on as of late that its been hard to keep up. Almost halfway into the new year though I now find myself neck deep in amazing new contracts with PUMA, Mighty Healthy, and Nicce London – a schedule of amazing upcoming trips – a new brand of my own – and craziest of all, engaged to my dream girl. 2016 has started off with a hell of a bang and its only going to go up from here. Im excited for the new year, new possibilities, and new adventures.

Rooftop Rendevous

This summer I saw some shots of a model that looked like Ruby Rose and was living in my city. The images were great, but the girl caught my eye an I wanted to shoot with her instantly. Well instantly wasnt until yesterday but it finally happened. One thing I noticed in this business is that shoots can be as easy or as hard as you make it. Thankfully Carolyn Boisvert aka Greenwood Music is like me and easy was the word for the day. We hiked up on to some rooftops in the Vieux Port and just kept it simple and shot. Yesterday was -1 and very icy so rooftops were extra sketch. As flawless as the shots are, Carolyn almost took a nasty step down….10 stories down. Needless to say I still have that images in my head, but hey we got the shots. Here are a few of my favs!

Electric Avenue

Working on creative projects is not new to us at NorthTrooper. Its actually something we truly prefer. Recently we had an opportunity to shoot something new for NYC streetwear brand Reason and their Fall collection. Taking some gorgeous beauties we shot them in some not so glamours locations, and then enlisted our friend Matt to give them a little extra pow! The edits lit up with neon to show case not only the brand, but the punch sometimes missing from shoots that have become to so plain an boring of late. These are just 4 of the favs from the editorial shoot. The rest can be seen on reasons site by visiting their blog.

10. 21. 15.

It is a big day for fanboys and geeks of the trilogy Back to the Future, as this is the epic day Marty travelled back in time. I teamed up with Beloved and my buddy Taylor to bring you this image, Back to the Taylor. Just a simple shot of a babe and her HoverBoard crewneck.

River Wild

With Fall finally here comes a bunch of rad mens editorials with it, starting with this first of 3 projects with Ghurka. A brisk morning, a river, and some amazing Ghurka products wouldnt fit into most peoples Sunday mornings, but then fly fishing wouldnt be on most peoples minds either. When you think of high end leather goods you dont normally associate that with fishing but Ghurka is not an ordinary brand. Part of Ghurkas “Specialty” collection you will find the Angler No 267 and the Spinner No 269, two crafted from the highest grade calfskin leather and solid brass hardware pieces perfect for any modern day fisherman. Hiking through a location up north we shot along the way until we reached our destination of the St Jerome Waterfalls. We partnered up with our good friends at Gaspe Fly Co who not only helped equip us with the proper looks for the shoot, but were the ones to show us that amazing spot. The entire looks can be seen on Ghurks site as well as Gaspe Fly Co’s. Next up for us and the Gurka project is a lazy Saturday. Stay tuned.

Wilsonnnnnnnn!!! Haha, so I definitely had some fun this past weekend. Over 3 very early mornings in Malibu I set out to various locations along the coastline with Tawny to shoot a Castaway theme. Overcast mornings are my fav especially in California, so it was the perfect time to create. Simple shots with ocean, rock, and cliff backdrops to produce and island like look. Did she survive? Yes, and the images are pretty damn cool. Take a look at a few here. More to come soon as they are going to be in print.
